Daisy is our gorgeous Bernese Mountain dog mama. Daisy weighs 95 lbs. and has a very loving temperament.

After a long search we came across Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie website. Reviews were very positive. We reached out to Edna & Willard via FaceTime which resulted in a decision to adopt a female BD. We picked up “Lulu” at 8 weeks old (Dec 18th) and were extremely impressed with their facilities - clean, spacious and very well organized. Since bringing her home she started to sleep through the night after just 3 nights and has continued to do so. She is also potty trained. Lulu has a great temperament with lots of energy. Very positive adoption experience and highly recommended.

Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie is the best! Edna and Willard couldn't have been any nicer and more informative. They took time to answer all of our questions and genuinely care about each and every puppy. We picked up our puppy, Scarlett, three days ago and she has already transitioned to our home seamlessly. At Scarlett's first vet appointment today, the vet even commented about how great the puppy's heath and disposition was. We will be taking her back to their son Darrel, in a couple weeks for training. Darrel also met us when we picked up our puppy and took the time to educate us about the breed and training options offered. The facility is hands down the most impressive, cleanest, most organized we've ever seen. I would and already have highly recommended Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie to anyone interested in getting a Bernedoodle. Amazing experience from start to finish!

We were very impressed with the heated indoor kennels and their extensive and detailed process with our puppy’s purchase. We picked Augie up at 10 weeks old and he was the last of his litter. At that time he was leash broke, very friendly/playful and Mom and Dad were on site. Five weeks later he has always been playful with our 7yo Aussie doodle and 2 yr old grandson. He has mastered our two doggie doors to the outside kennel to potty and it has been five days since he has had any accidents in the house. We would definitely recommend this friendly family and their puppies 💜!!!!!!

We got our puppy Hagrid last week from Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie and couldn’t be more happier! He is such a blessing to us. He’s such a happy playful lil guy who makes our hearts melt. He’s very smart and such a good boy! Willard and Edna were very nice and the process was a breeze. The puppy packet was very informational and organized and they answered any questions we had. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to add a bernedoodle to their family! Update: it’s been a little over two years since we got Hagrid and just had to share new photos of him because I’m such a proud dog mama! Looking back at the puppy stage, I have to say his temperament made it such a breeze. He is such a great dog with the best personality. Playful yet can also be calm, goofy, smart, loves kids, affectionate, and always has a smile on his face.

We got our dog here is 2023. Edna and her family were so incredibly helpful and kind during the entire process. They were prompt to respond to our texts and calls. They were very accommodating and open to our family visiting the dogs multiple times. Their facilities are amazing - you can tell that they love all of their dogs and make caring for them in a humane way their top priority. The dogs always seemed content and well cared for. Our dog has a great temperament and no health issues. His transition to our home was so easy - largely due to the extra things that Edna does to help (food, scent blankets, orderly paperwork). We knew we would be training our dog to be a service dog, so we were incredibly picky at every step of the process - Edna and the dogs in her care did not disappoint. They are the cream of the crop and incredibly cute! Another bonus is that their son offers puppy training programs if that feels overwhelming to you!! Amazing all around. Thank you to Edna and her family for their efforts. Our dog really has changed our lives in so many positive ways. You won’t be disappointed.

We got our beautiful boy, Oliver, a week ago, and he is absolutely perfect! Willard and Edna were wonderful to work with. Their facilities are large, clean, and beautifully kept for their dogs. We were able to meet Oliver’s mama, and she was so sweet. When we picked him up, they’d already started crate training him, so he has been quick to grasp potty training. We had an amazing experience getting our puppy from this family! The place was super clean and well-kept, and they were so friendly and professional from start to finish. We live about five hours away, and they were kind enough to let us FaceTime our pup beforehand and even gave us a virtual tour so we could see everything for ourselves. When we sent someone to pick her up, they kept us updated with videos and made sure she was all ready to go—clean, freshly bathed, and happy. They even sent her home with some dog food, a leash, a toy, and all her paperwork neatly organized. You can tell they truly care about their dogs and the families they go to. Just an all-around great family and top-notch business. Highly recommend them!

We love bernedoodles of the open prairie!! We recently got our mini bernedoodle puppy from them and the whole experience was great. We went there to pick out our puppy and Edna and Willard couldn’t be nicer and more helpful answering any questions. Their facility is spacious and clean for the mommas and puppies. You can tell they really love and care for all the animals. We sent our puppy to Edna & Willards son’s training facility and they graciously kept our puppy for a week until it was time for him to go to the training place and brought him there for us. Couldn’t recommend them enough!!

I got my tiny Bernedoodle, Fred, almost a year ago from Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The process was smooth and straightforward—they sent me videos of the available pups, we did a video call, and they arranged to have Fred flown out to me. Everything was clear, easy, and handled with care. Fred has been such a gift—sweet, smart, and with a fantastic temperament. My dog trainer actually suggested she might be a good candidate for service dog training, and we’ve since started working on seizure detection. She’s taken to it incredibly well and is already showing real promise. That’s not something I expected when I first got her, but it’s turned out to be an incredible and unexpected bonus. First two photos are Fred the first week after I got her (9 weeks) and the second two are her at 1 year. She was 6lbs when I got her and is 17lbs now.

Edna and Willard do such a great job making a wonderful life for not only the puppies, but also the parents. Edna was so great with communication from the very first call we made. Willard answered many of my questions before I even had to ask. They welcomed us down for a visit prior to selecting our puppy and were 100% open door/ask anything. We were thrilled with how social and welcoming the momma’s were when we arrived. All of the puppies are cared for in a newly converted horse barn with sanitation and comfort top of mind. Upon adoption, Willard walked through all of the documentation including the vaccination chart, the micro-chip information, and health agreement (which was very clear and generous). Our vet was pleased to see all the documentation and was extra pleased with how well cared for our little guy was. We are so thankful to Edna and Willard for taking such great care of little Benny and making sure their business is right sized and so well run so that all puppies from their litters are adopted. Through no fault of their own, and likely BECAUSE they run such a great business, they have had an issue with some folks trying to steal their online presence by making fake Instagram accounts and websites, so just make sure you request a FaceTime when reaching out. You will be very pleased working with Willard and Edna.

I had a wonderful experience with our adoption of Jack Frost!! It was a such a blessing to have a loving family take care of him before we could take our little guy home for Christmas!! We decided to have him stay a couple of weeks for training with Darrel. Willard was so careful to go through all the paperwork including some chew toys which are very needed!! Edna was so nice, informative, and helpful. We had recently lost our family dog. Nothing could replace him, but Jack is filling our hearts and home with joy and love!! Where to begin, from the selection process to picking up to the communication before, during and even AFTER pick up of our sweet Jack, this place is the perfect spot for any bernedoodle! We are so pleased with Darrel's Training Center. Our 13 week old Cavapoo, Cooper, graduated today after training for 3 1/2 weeks. He was socialized among other dogs, cats, horses, roosters, and people (including children). Cooper now has a basic understanding of sit, stay, down, come, off, drop it, leave it, and is happy to just hang out by himself in his crate with a few toys. He also knows the string of bells near our patio door is a signal to go outside and do his business. The training center also handles boarding and grooming. I highly recommend Darrel's Training Center!!!I

We can’t recommend Bernedoodles of the open prairie enough! We adopted a mini Merle Bernedoodle, Cooper (formerly Patrick) from Edna and Willard in February, and he is the best dog ever!! So happy, friendly, healthy, and SMART! For 8 months old, has very calm energy. Everyone comments on how well behaved he is for a puppy. Does great with dogs and kids. And he is so handsome! If you are thinking about a Bernedoodle, go with Edna and Willard. Lovely people and best best dogs.

We got our micro bernedoodle puppy, Hank, from Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie last December and he has been the perfect addition to our family! Edna & Jenna were incredible throughout the whole process from selecting a puppy to the actual pickup day. They managed to keep constant communication and gave regular updates on how our little guy was doing until we got to bring him home. He was also almost fully crate trained and partially potty trained by the time he came home at 10 weeks old! We got our tiny bernedoodle from this breeder a little over a year ago and it was the best decision we’ve ever made. She’s the happiest, wiggliest, best dog I’ve ever had! From our first communication with Edna and Open Prairie, our experience was positive, detailed and professional. We could not have asked for better breeders for our dog Pochu than Edna & Willard at Bernedoodles & Bernese Mountain Dogs of the Open Prarie. Pochu is the perfect addition to our family, and our happiness is a testament to their hard work in his infancy! Prior to Pochu arriving, we had a million questions for Edna and she responded to each one quickly and patiently. She was also communicative on where we stood in line, which litter we would get, when Pochu's mother was expecting, and eventually when we could visit to choose him. She made the anxious process of waiting for our new puppy relatively easy to deal with. 2 months into our lives with him (he is 4 months old), Pochu is the perfect dog for us. He’s kind, affectionate, great with both dogs and people, and an incredibly quick learner. He was crate trained and sleeping through the night by night 3, which took a lot of the strain off of us in the first couple of weeks. Since then, he has mastered almost every command we've taught him inside of a day or two (most recently, he learned to ring a bell to go outside for potty within an hour from when we began practicing with him). Our trainer has remarked that Pochu's ability to learn and perform commands is "ridiculous" for a puppy his age, and she felt he knows more at 4 months old than her own 6- and 9-year-old rescues. It's incredibly comforting and motivating to have a dog who quickly and happily rewards the hard work we put into him. We credit a lot of Pochu's kindness and intelligence to the incredible love and care Edna and Willard put into him as a baby. We particularly were so happy that the baby pups have Edna and Willard's grandkids around to play with! As a result of the love they showed him, Pochu came to us already well-socialized for his age - he loves people of all shapes, sizes, genders, and ages. He was also already 'sitting to ask' so often we thought it must have been natural behavior (hint - it wasn't - Edna, Willard, and the family likely reinforced this behavior in him as a baby). Health-wise, Pochu has been perfectly healthy so far other than one small bout with giardia (he had minimal symptoms). We often get asked where we got Pochu when we walk him around downtown Chicago, and we're only too happy to recommend Edna and Willard!!!!
