Hello,
 from Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie!

We are Willard and Edna Herschberger, and along with our daughter Jenna, we raise happy, healthy, and well-loved Bernedoodle puppies in Central Illinois. Jesus is the foundation of our lives and business, and we seek His guidance in all we do. Our love for Bernese Mountain Dogs began in 2010, and in 2016 we started raising Bernedoodles for their sweet, intelligent personalities and low-shedding coats. Since then, they’ve become the perfect breed for us. We’ve transformed our former horse pastures and barn into a comfortable home for our dogs, with open fields and a climate-controlled facility. Whelping mothers enjoy private 10'x10' rooms with space to care for—and take breaks from—their puppies. Raising Bernedoodles has become a true family affair, with our sons and daughters also involved. We enjoy helping families choose their perfect puppy, whether in person, through videos, or via FaceTime. We’d love to get to know you and help match you with the right puppy!

Our Facilities

We would love to have you come visit us! However, we know that isn’t a possibility for everyone so here are some pictures to show you where your puppies are being raised and loved until they come to your home. Darre's Kitchen Office area
We feel very blessed with our beautiful kitchen/office area. This is where we bathe our puppies, do laundry for the dogs, do our bookwork and do all the many things that go into raising beautiful Bernedoodle puppies for you!
We love being able to watch our sweet mamas play on their enrichment tower while we bathe puppies.
Our beautiful mamas have lots of room to run in our converted horse pastures!
These girls are always ready to play!
Our mamas have been loving their new enrichment tower! You can also see their heated and air-conditioned building where they can go in and out freely as they choose.

We used to raise horses in here so we left our wooden sliding barn doors on this side. We think it adds a unique look to our facilities.

Here’s Grace and her 12 new miniature puppies. She’s using one of our new whelping pens. The heated floors are awesome and we love the bright clean look.

Lazee is due today as I’m sure you can tell by her pudgy tummy! We probably won’t get a lot of sleep tonight but that’s okay. The excitement of sweet new puppies is well worth the hours of lost sleep!!

Willard & Dixie having a bonding moment! Our dogs and puppies all think Willard is pretty special and I agree with them! Dixie’s 9 miniature tri-color puppies love their heating pad! Eating and sleeping is their favorite pastime right now but that will all change in a few weeks:)
Black Tri-color puppies
Each one of our puppies goes home with their own personal “blankie”. We rub it on their mother and then we hang it by their room so they can take the familiar scent that they are accustomed to with them when they leave.

Crystal & Snickers' beautiful standard size Bernedoodle puppies. This pen used to be a 10 foot by 10 foot box stall for our horses now it’s a perfect size for our gorgeous puppies to run and play!

A lot of our time is spent taking pictures of our gorgeous Bernedoodle puppies. We feel this is a very important part of raising puppies. Even if you can’t come see them as often as you would like, we try to keep you up-to-date with pictures and videos. Our Instagram & Facebook sites are called Bernedoodles of the Open Prairie1. This is a good place to see adorable pictures and videos of our puppies as they grow.
